Preparations for the Club's new pontoon

After consultation with all the relevant WSC Committees and numerous external bodies, the club's new walk on pontoon was approved by the Trustees in 2024. There followed formal submission of the final design and plans to obtain agreement and sign off from the relevant authorities.
So, on a chilly, still and misty late December 2024 bank holiday weekend, a group of club volunteers led by Gary Owens, the WSC Mooring Lead, began the task of dismantling the existing cubies. There followed two further days of inspecting and cleaning the old cubies of their sea growth. The Photos say it all!
Over the next few months, new piles will be professionally installed to replace the existing structures that have been in place for the last twenty-five years. In the meantime club volunteers will be working to repair or replace the chain and plastic fittings that hold the cubies together. Additional cubies are being acquired to replace damaged sections and enable the shore link and then everything has to be re-connected, floated out and fitted between the new piles; so ample opportunity for volunteers to help!
None of this is cheap and we should be proud that we have club members who are prepared to offer their knowledge, skills, labour and time to make all this happen and in doing so save the club (a Charity), a significant cost. This is a valuable enhancement to the club's facilities providing many members with greatly improved access to their boats.
